An Introduction to Slot Machines

Slot games are one of the most famous games to wager on at casinos. On any given night, bargain on most of the machines to be packed with eager gamblers. They appear in a multitude of gambling levels; a few only cost $.05 a play and others can cost upwards of twenty dollars a spin. Although slots are a gambling tool, a number of people are afraid of the big money card tables and are partial to the fun and thrill of an excellent slot machine game.

The first slot machine was assembled in 1895 and was called the "Liberty Bell." Invented by a California machinist, the first slot games had three spinning reels with diamonds, hearts, spades and a cracked Liberty Bell affixed on each. Prior to this invention, the phrase "slot machines" was used to describe various kinds of vending machines.

The initial widespread use of slot machine games in American brick and mortar casinos is credited to the Flamingo Hotel, Sin City somewhere around the 40’s. The owner of the brick and mortar casino had originally thought the slot machines would be perfect to intrigue bored wives of some of the largest whales of the brick and mortar casino. Little did he know that slot machines would be a fun game for nearly everyone and that the allure would go beyond the the apathetic wives. Today, it is said, slot machines make up over 2/3rds of all income generated by U.S. brick and mortar casinos.

Slot machine games certainly have a rich history. From the small invention of the mid-1800’s to the billion dollar industry of today, slot machines will continue to develop in universal appeal.
